Salem:  Four people have been nabbed in the daring robbery at a jewellery shop in Pathanamthitta where 4.5 kg of gold and Rs 13 lakh in cash were decamped on Sunday evening.

The 4 were nabbed from Salem in Tamil Nadu. But one person from the gang fled with the gold and cash. The 4 were nabbed during a vehicle inspection and the car seized by the police. The 4 are presently under the custody of the Salem police and the police team from Pathanamthitta have rushed to Salem to bring them.

Police arrested the primary accused within hours of the incident on Sunday evening. Akshay Patel, a native of Maharashtra was arrested from Kozhenchery here in the district. Akshay had accepted to have committed the crime. He was nabbed when he tried to board a vehicle.

It is learned that Akshay was the mastermind behind the daring robbery. Akshay had helped the four men rob cash and gold after manhandling and tying up Santhosh, another employee of the shop. Akshay had started working at the shop just 12 days ago.

The police are questioning Akshay to locate the missing four men. The gang had also taken away the hard disc of the CCTV installed in the shop.

The four-member gang had escaped with 4.5 kilograms of gold and 13 lakh in cash from a jewellery showroom here on Sunday evening. Police had been suspecting the involvement of Akshay, who escaped with the robbers in an auto rickshaw.
