Mumbai: The Mahim police arrested two people who had allegedly robbed a jewellery shop within 48 hours of the incident. The accused were arrested from Vasai. The police also seized jewellery worth Rs 1.99 crore. The accused were arrested by the city crime branch team.

One of the accused was identified as Ranaram Purohit. Purohit had allegedly been working at the jewellery shop since the past nine months. The owner of the shop was identified as Bansmil Jain.

Jain allegedly asked the accused to pull down the shutters partially for lunch, this was when a man allegedly entered the shop. The man who walked in allegedly tied Jain and took gold, silver, six bullets and Jain’s imported revolver.

The accused allegedly took the video-recorder of the shop while the victim was tied up. Eventually, when the victim escaped, he informed the police. The Mahim police registered a complaint against the accused and began the search.

While talking to the Times of India, the police stated that the accused took advantage of the trust that the accused had on him. The victim had given a room to them to stay. Jain had three employees, out of which, one had gone to his home town while one had left a day before the alleged incident.

The accused used to stay with a friend of his in Vasai. The accused had allegedly planned the robbery a week before. The accused allegedly wanted to live a rich life and decided to rob the owner.
